Matt MacMurdo has been a competitive and professional skater for the past 18 years and is currently NCCP Primary StarSkate Certified. Representing Skate Canada Eastern Ontario, Matt was a sectional and divisional champion as well as a five-time national level competitor in novice, junior, and senior. Matt was the 1999 Canada Winter Games Champion and represented Canada at the 1997 North American Challenge. With a strong competitive background, he is also a Skate Canada Technical Specialist, a very useful tool for today's coaches to develop competitive skaters. Matt has been a professional skater with Disney On Ice since 2003 as an ensemble, semi-principal and principal skater. He also held the positions of Line Captain and Media Mentor with the company. Travelling around the world to 85 countries on 6 continents, he has gained invaluable experience as a performer and hopes to impart this performance knowledge as a coach at the Connaught Skating Club. He is also currently completing an interdisciplinary studies degree in Comparative Global Politics of Africa and Latin America. Matt's coaching philosophy is to develop skaters into well-rounded athletes with a goal to achieving their personal best and to reaching their fullest potential while learning skills they can take with them for life. Matt looks forward to adding his energy, enthusiasm, and passion for the sport to the Connaught Skating Club coaching team.
